I have not tried the 4756... Will give the a try !
Have you played with crimping out in a grease grove ... my Dan has a long cylinder and permits a bit more case capacity.
as long as the boolits don't move when you fire them you can crimp [or not]
wherever you want.
neck/case tension is important with slow powders. as much or more so then the crimp
the crimp is there for boolit creep but you gotta have more than that for powder burn.
if you have the 414 just shoot the loads as is, i shoot the 44 in my 445 and no problems.
just keep the cylinders real clean.
better yet get some [i know it is spensive] brass from starline.
in my dw 357 i just used 38 brass seated out the boolits, and kept making them bigger around
till i didn't have to size brass between loads. just re-prime powder and seat the boolit.
just to see if i could do it.
I am working on a 414... I have a cylinder and I think I will rebore a 357 max Dan barrel to a 1-16 twist. I have a 375 SM Dan which is a super round... 38-55 balistics But I should have bought the 414 when they were available. But with the 375 frame my 414 is just around the corner. My last firearm buck met a 255 gr .377 from my Dan and that was that. I just like bigger holes...
you can save me some time then, with the 375.
powder and boolit combo ,was it cast?
i regret not getting the 414 also, but who knows maybe they will once again make it.
they had some awesome sight combinations for it also maybe these are still available?
a cylinder and bbl swap should be pretty straight forward.
but i think i will leave my 375 as is.
Hello again
I am right now in Peru so I do not have my data book with me on my 375sm... But the boolit was a Lyman 377 248 grain plain base made of ww/pb 50/50. Powder was 296 and it was max... but I do not have the weight. Case was the 375 sm cases I got from Idaho when I purchased the Dan. Cut down 375 win cases seem to be as good. The more powder I used the better it shot. I stopped with VERY flat smashed primers (W L P) and 3" accuracy at 100 yds benched with lots of sandbag support.
Current plinker/target load is 6.5 TRAIL BOSS and a 215 gr. cast SWC. Can't tell you much more about the bullet, I bought 1500 of them at a gun show for $50.00.
Hunting is a 245 gr Gas Checked cast out of a mold my Brother in Law made, he is learning the art so I get to be a "Field Tester". 20.5 H110. Aim squeeze and git 'er done!
