If you have Sharpe's _Complete Guide to Handloading-, on pp 352-353 he reports a dozen and a half loads. He specifically mentions Major N. H. Roberts reporting 100 yard ½"-¾" groups with the 100 grain Schoyen bullet cast 1 to 30 and 9.5 grains of DuPont #1204. He used a blotting paper over powder wad and seated the bullet in the throat. DuP #1204 is similar in burn rate to #4227.
Six of his listed loads use powders that are still available, 2400 and Unique.
He commented that extraction was a little easier than the .25-25, but not much, and that the taper on the .25-20 Single shot case was a great improvement for extraction.
Huntington, Buffalo, and others have brass and dies. Do compare prices.
    Cheers from Darkest California,

    From Sharpe's book:

    8.0/2400/60-gr. metal-cased/ 1527 fps/ 10.5K PSI
    11.0/2400/60-gr. MC/ 2036 fps/ 18.0k PSI
    13.0/2400/60-gr. MC/2370 fps/ 29.6K PSI (Max or near-max)
    6.0/2400/86-gr SP/0.450" seating depth/953 fps/ 9.1 K PSI
    10.0/2400/86-gr SP/0.450" SD/1673 fps/ 18k PSI
    12.0/2400/86-gr SP/0.450" SD/200 fps/29.4K "Strong rifles only"
    5.5/Unique/86-gr lead/0.450" SD/1525 fps

    From The Breech-loading Single-shot Rifle:

    5.0/Unique/Lyman 88-gr. #257464, breech-seated ahead of case/blotting paper wad in case.
    8.0/2400/rest same as above.

I would be really leery of using jacketed bullets in one of these rifles unless it was newly-made or had a modern steel barrel.
