    Default What is persistency...?

Note that the shooter was in the process of emptying a second cylinder when it treacherously refused to rotate, having failed in completely inserting the next bullet in the barrel....

It's a barrel cut lengthwise filled with jacketed bullets, muzzle on the left. Where did the photo come from? Is there really someone out there that stupid? (Dumb question). Kinda give new meaning to slugging your bore.

The pic came from a 'smith on an other forum; it's a Manurhin 73 barrel.

It seems to be quite common for shooters to either not pay attention or be unable to feel if the bullet left the barrel or not.
Personally I hate wimpy calibers or reloads who hardly shake the gun; I can't concentrate on shooting and keep checking the target and the bore with them.

Some reloaders seek the lowest possible recoil and will come to this situation; a bullet gets stuck in the barrel and the others will just pile up behind it.
Jacketed and commercial hard cast have a very high resistance to friction compared to anything I have ever cast at home; commercial hard lubes don't help at all either. I am amazed that you can find any hard cast bullets for obsolete blackpower calibers....

I've only had two unwanted squib loads in my life, both of them exiting the barrel and making a distinct 'thud' behind the targets. They made me very nervous until I understood how they had come out of my press (lumps stuck in the powder rotor).

I've got a similar picture with a Webley somewhere, and I think there is one in Wilson's book on Colt and his guns.

These ones come from the same smith I think; I would bet on a squib followed by full loads:

That is unfricking believable. Stackem up in the barrel till she won't even take another one.
The way the SW metal shattered it almost looks like it was cast iron.
