Default What is your favourite .308 Winchester Load?

Looking for Jacket or Cast favourite loads for .308 Win or 7.62 Nato. Going to shoot them in my new M1A Norinco. Will be shooting 311291 Lyman boolits and an array of jackets.

I only shoot it out of bolt and lever actions. I have a GB 311291 coming, but so far I've been having good luck with Lee 180's (46.0 of WC860, 31.0 of 3031, 23.0 of RE7). For jacketed, I'm partial to Sierra GK's in 150 (42.3 of 3031) & 165gr (44.9 of 4064). Both are as accurate in my rifles as their match bullets. Of course, I doubt if my jacketed charge weights would hit the sweet spot with the gas-operated action, but they would fall into the functional pressure range without danger of damaging the op rod. I don't know about the cast loads. I think BruceB next door has been playing with his a lot and I'm sure he has posted some good cast loads for it.

Default 41.5gr 4895, 168gr SMK, FC or WW primer, LC brass

I shot about a zillion of them out of M1A and .308 M1 rifles. I also used 3031 and 4064. One can go a lot lighter in powder charge once a rifle gets smoothed by some shooting.

I've never shot anything but Berdan-primed surplus through the Chinese copies of the M14. Those that were imported into the US in the 1990's had a problem with developing excess headspace.

New Norinco M1A's are rock solid. Forged parts throughout. Mine will do 4" @ 100 yards with a number of tests cast boolit loads and I don't usually shoot that well with iron sights. $399Cdn!

Bob I shoot 168gr Sierra Matchkings with 39.5gr of IMR 4895 in my Springfield
M1A That has proven to be an accurate load in my Savage 110 Tactical as well
    From my cold dead hands.
If it ain't a Colt it is a copy.
