Thumbs up Finally picked my new .223

After much research and opinion gathering, I picked a DPMS, 20 inch, 1/9" , full floated and fluted top end. Also a DPMS AR 15 lower from another source.

The 60 grain Sierra really had me looking for a 1/9" twist or tighter. This left me with a choice between an AR and a CZ 527. So I went with the self-loader.

Now I'll need to see if I can get one MOA accuracy from it. One Question though...Does the flat-top AR require a special scope ring or will standard Weaver rings work ?

To judge from what the guy shooting next to me at the range a few weeks ago had, they looked like regular weaver rings to me. He had qd style to switch the scope back and forth on two different flattop recievers for comparative ammo tests (gun writer, but a down to earth one).

    - Bolt/Carrier and Charge Handle are Included

I couldn't pass it up and it's exactly what I was looking for. Over $750 list.

    Red face Paid too much.

That is exactly the top end that I have.
Paid a little more for it, though.

But all that aside, I'm still looking for rings high enough to raise the scope to my eye level. Weaver high rings are not high enough.

    Any suggestions ?

I believe see-through rings are much taller than high rings. They are a little ugly, but might do the job. I also think (but may be wrong) that Tasco's high rings (also Weaver-style) are taller than Weaver's, too, and a better design.

    Cynical,
Sounds like what you need is a "flattop riser" which is designed to handle your particular problem. As the name implies, the riser attaches to the rail on the upper receiver and raises the base up enough to use standard rings. Brownell's carries several different types.

    Default You got it

MAR354, I think you're right. I have been on Gunbr..... and I see your point.
If my bid comes through, I'll be all set.

    Thanks for the ideas, gentlemen.

Found some other options if you aren't all set.

I'm going to try 1" rings first, but JP Enterprises has indvidual risers for each scope ring that are inexpensive.
