    Question .375 H&H loads

    Greetings all-
Does anyone have a favorite load for the .375 H&H w/ 300 gr bullets? I'm hoping to eliminate a little load development time as: a) that cartridge eats a lot of powder (powder=$), and b) it gets a little painful after 20 rounds or so off the bench, (I'm to cheap to buy a Caldwell Lead Sled). Thanks

    -SSG Klaus

    d-o-k,
Thanks boss, I was beginning to think I was the only one on here with an H&H. I'm glad you have a 4350 load, I've always liked that powder in '06 or bigger cases. I'll have to load some up this week & try to make the range this weekend as the snow has finally melted and it's almost decent weather again. By the way, do you happen to know what Federal loads with? My rifle, (WIN Mod 70 Classic stainless) really likes their 300 gr load, the cheap stuff not their Premium line. Thanks again.

d-o-k, Got it, thanks for the effort, it's just kind of hard to argue with 5 rounds in under an inch at 100 yds. Who knows maybe it'll like your 4350 load that much. Take care & good shooting.

Do they say "those .375's won't shoot" or they "won't shoot those .375's"? I wasn't too eager for a second shot when a tried a friend's. It had me flinching from my 10/22 after....

Klaus, have you taken one of these ctges apart? You might get an idea about the powder.
It is usually fairly easy to grab a bullet over the top of the press with pliers or a wrench and lower the ram (protect the press' coating with cardboard or something... ). Just don't do that with incendiary bullets... :

Some powders look like a mix of various ball sizes, JHP's often leave a few marks of (electric?) bonding inside the neck and whatever.... Often the powder is not available commercially.... Well, if there's nothing on TV give it a shot...

kg- good idea, I'll give it a shot, I should @ least be able to narrow the field of possibilities.

versifier- hard not to agree with you, that weapon starts to become not so much fun around round #9 or 10 off the bench; which makes load development a bit of a chore

    Anyway, thanks guys, take care

I'm not adverse to placing a small sand bag between my shoulder & the Butt of my larger rifles for load development ! Mind you the other day I had the 45-70 out for a bit of a plink & forgot (Ok I was't paying attention to what I was doing & loaded a Full power hunting load in with my Plinking loads needless to say it was a leason in a new world of Pain !!!!!(to make matters worse there were wittnesses )

A really pleasant plinking load for the 375 is 40 gns of H4895 behind a 300 gn cast !
