Default OAL for Sierra 270 bullet

    Need the oal for a pro-hunter 270 130gr splitzer.

Swapped the kel-tec for a rem 700, Connie shot the pistol twice and handed it to me and said she did'nt like it. I thought it was pretty neat, i loaded up some sierra 90gr jhp the pistol ate'em right up no problems. I also loaded up some sie 115gr fmj they did'nt do so well, i think i had'em to long. they were hitting the ramp and stoping, they were'nt diving. The 115gr store bought stuff feed great.

The rifle is in great shape, someone had mounted the scope with cva muzzel loader mounts and rings, recon they ever hit anything??? I knew they would have to be replaced i did'nt even think about the mount screws untill i started removing them. The thread were pretty buggered up, but i got the millet bases screwed on without to much problems, they tightened down good and tight without pulling the threads. I guess if they turn loose i'll go up a size.

OAL straight out of the Sierra Manual for 130gr SPT's and SBT's is 3.300". Do you want the load chart?

Thanks Tom! I'm gonna have to get a sie book. I have always loaded Hornady unless i could'nt get them. Every body likes the sie bullets, i never could get moa groups with the hornady 130gr sp, my handy almost sprayed them, the savage 110 did pretty good and the 111 around 1.5". I hope this rem shoots as good as Connie's 243

I'm loading with imr 4831, my hornady book has 56.1gr as max for the 130gr bullets. What does the sie book have for max?

AS a matter of intrest I was looking through some old Manuals I've got & for a 130gn ,using IMR 4831 I came up with the following results

Reloading for Riles & Pistols by Barry Wilmont 1995

    min 53gns=2700fps max 57gns=3000fps

The Reloading manual for Rifle & hand gun (third edition ) by Nick Harvey 1991

    min 55gns=2790fps max60gns=3220fps

Modern Reloading by Richard Lee 1997

    min 53.2 max 59gns=3110 min OAL3.250

That was just as a matter of how loads change over the years they were all 130gn & used IMR4831

Those OAL recommendations are just that... recommendations. You may have to adjust for magazine length sometimes. Otherwise, I like to use an RCBS Precision Mic or similar tool to fine tune seating depth. Each rifle likes a different amount of jump into the riflings. Barnes bullets suggest at least .050 in. off riflings. Most conventional bullets work good for me set at .020 in. off riflings. One must play with OAL/seating depths to attain best accuracy. Sometimes it makes a LOT of difference.
