44 Special loads

My 44 spcl loads have been stringing vertically by 2 to 3 inches. I may have crimped too much? 1/2 turn. Any other ideas? Oh we are using 8 gr of Power Pistol powder and 240 gr cast & jacketed bullets.

My thoughts aere an uneven crimp. Try measuring the length of the cartridg cases and trim all to an equal length. If lengths are not the same, crimps will not all have the same hold.

I have great success with Power Pistol, but I only use 6.8gr. In the Hornady 7th that is the max for 240gr jacketed is 6.8gr and 7.0gr for cast. A little less powder might help. As for crimping, I do very, very little crimp. I use them in a 44mag Ruger Red Hawk with a 7.5 in bbl. With a heavy gun its like shooting a 22.

I have two Redhawks, a 5.5" and 7.5" barreled models. dang thigs need wheels. :O Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. LOL.

For revolvers and roll crimps, size all your cases and trim to the same length. Seat bullets just to top of cannelure on bullet and then roll crimp in separate step.
You appear to possibly be loading over maximum.
