Cleaning methods and equipment have their uses but, in my humble opinion, putting a bore brush or a used bore snake without a light coat of oil down my target barrels ______First,is just plain unnatural and possibly, criminal! Abrasive particles, carbon, brass, etc can scratch the insides.

My uncle uses the bore snake when he is on a hunting trip for quick cleanings after the day is done. I would agree there is no substitute to a good cleaning but after you have carried a rifle or shotgun all day and not made a shot it is not a bad idea to just chase the bore.
He does wash the bore snake regular to keep it from becoming embedded with grit.
Some folks I shoot with (especially in pistol matches) will use them in between stages to keep the tighter built pistols clean.
I can see a use but I do not care for them myself.

I was kind of sold on Boresnakes when my buddy got his new Volquartsen .17 HMR and it came with a Boresnake and the warning that if any thing other than the Boresnake was used to clean the bore the warranty was void. That convinced me to give them a try. They arn't perfect, pretty good though.
