Question Anyone have a Barnes Reloading Book?

Hello! I need a starting load for my 30-06. The bullet will be the the Barnes Triple Shock and the powder will be Varget. The website doesn't list a starting load for Varget.

    Thanks!

Hi...Try the website for Hodgen Powder. They list Varget for 30-06 loads fron 125 gr to 220 gr.

You really need to use Barnes data for their solid copper bullets, at least until you get a feel for them. The extra length for weight takes up usable powder capacity and raises pressures, so data for normal jacketed bullets is not always safe. I don't have a Barnes manual, and you can't get much in the way of info from them - they want to sell you a manual, too.

    from barnes #3

    150 grn varget start 49.0 max 53.0
    165 start 48.0 max 52.0
    180 start 47.0 max 51.0

for the solid copper bullets w/o the relief grooves you need to use their data, for the triple shocks that I have checked over my crono they run very close to to any other jacketed published data.

Thanks to all who responded. I worked my way up to the max listed by 280 Ackley without any signs of excessive pressure using Varget and Barnes TSX 165 grain bullets in my 30-06.

    Take Care!
