The above quote from doing a site search for "Casull"

Been on the cast boolits forum and someone directed me here.

Using a Ruger Super Red Hawk 7.5" barrel in .454 Casull. I have some H110 powder I use for normal magnum loads. .44 and .500 mag.

But, the Casull doesn't seem to like H110 powder. I see blue dot mentioned several times. Don't currently have any but willing to purchase if that is the secret powder for accuracy.

I'm a bullseye shooter so quite accurate with a pistol. My purpose for the .454 is I'm lazy and don't like tracking shot game. I'm not a trophy hunter, and prefer yearling whitetail for the meat. Head shot means the animal is dispatched painless and I choose where the animal will fall and be field dressed.

I have shot the factory WW JFN bullets which group well about 2" at 25yd (off hand) Reloaded 300 gr Sierra JHP over H110 powder (35.5 grains If memory serves) didn't group near as well. Lots of muzzle flash and large group. While I didn't run them across my chrono, I suspect the velocities would vary and that is causing group dispersion.

I prefer to shoot cast lead bullets and will probably go with the Lee 300gr FN with gas check.

I'm in the deciding phase right now so looking for input on suggested cast projectiles as well as type of powder that is better suited to medium loaded 454.

All thoughts and comments on reloading for a .454 Casull Ruger Super Red Hawk are very welcome
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dan

Myself for large cal pistol loads I have found Hercules 2400 and IMR 42227 to be best.
Never loaded the 454 but there is plenty of data out there for this round.
These two powder in my experience work best in large bore revolvers with mag primers
I load one of my Ruger SBH with a 10in bull barrel to 24.1 gr 2400 with a 260 gr jrn
    Holds a 1 1/3 in group at 50 yards

2400 and cast is a very good fit.
a heavy colt load and go up is a good start.
if not sure 20 gr in a 45colt is stout but not max in a ruger.
    i have settled on 19.3 in my 45 colt. with a 250
my 44 and a 245 weight boolit likes the same load.

Have you slugged throats, forcing cone, and barrel?
