Yup, shoot a Buffalo Classic in 45/70 and a Neff Ultra Varmint in .223. Have also started my grandson out on a Rossi with barrels in .22 and .410. Reloading for them is almost as much fun as shooting.

Made a mistake. It is 22gr of X-Terminator or 26gr of Varget. The Varget is the accurate load.
Just go back from the range trying some Trail Boss loads. Accuracy was good and there seemed to be more of a push from recoil than the smack I get from Unique. I will definitely have to do more...
Welcome to the forum Corporal. Also a vet and disabled. A load that has worked for a great number of rifles I have shot is 26gr of Varget behind a 50gr bullet and standard small rifle primers. It has...
You can also use 777 FF for both cartridges. I use 60gr for 45/70 behind a 405gr LRNFP and 30gr in .45 Colt behind a 200gr LRNFP
If you go to the Alliant book, they list 11gr as a starting load under the cowboy section.
I don't load jacketed, but a good low velocity load is 12gr of Unique behind a
405gr LRNFP
Since I like RCBS equipment, I use their accessory plate on my bench. That way I can move everything around http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l221/emozeley/Bench004.jpg...
I shoot 12 grains of Unique behind a 405gr Lasercast for a velocity of 1100fps. It is an accurate load in my Buffalo Classic.:-D
