Great cartridge!!! I've been shooting one for 30+ years. I've never found a load mine didn't like.
I make most of my brass from 7mm Rem Mag. The 338's seemed to be thick in the neck after forming.
Also, the Norma measures .2189" from the case head to the front edge of the belt, and the .300 H&H based cases measure a nominal .220". Thanks to the sloppiness of modern manufacturing, about half will chamber easily. You can try the 7mm before forming.
I occasionally buy factory brass at gunshows, but like you, I hate to pay the price.
The 308 Norma is my ultimate "go to: gun. If I could keep only one rifle that would be it.:-D
