Welcome to the Guide.
I'm not understanding what you're asking or what you're wanting to do with it. I'm assuming either English is not your first language or you're trying to type with your thumbs on a mobile phone. Please give it another try and we'll try to answer your questions.
Versifier. What I think he is trying to say is he slugged the barrel of his .303 Enfield and got a measurement of .308". He wants to know if he can use .308" bullets.
What confuses me is a .303 takes .312" bullets and a .308" bullet would rattle down the bore. I hesitate to answer his question because if I say he needs .312" bullets in a .303 brit. and the gun is a conversion to something else like those 7.62 NATO Ishapore rifles, well you get the picture.
Ronledson. We need a lot more details before we can answer your question. In fact, a picture of the rifle's action showing the magazine would be a big help as the 7.62 conversions used a different shaped magazine.

Thank you I'll Try Get Some Picture .That is what is confuses me also.I know it takes .311 to .312 .But why is it sluging out to .308 I have been useing sierra 150 spitzer #2300 with a BC of .344 Iam Trying to find a Better BC bullet in The 150 or 160 speer hot-cor with Bc Of .520 I think.Oh yes iit's a 5 groove barrel. wrap a thin feeler guage around slug, mike, subtract the thickness of the feeler guage X 2 My slug with a .002 shim around it measure .315 - .004 = .311.
am I right If
So I will use Speer spitzer SP with a bc of .411 48. of Imr 4064 28554 C.O.L 3.075 Psi about 35700 for a Elk at 150 - 170 yd
i have only seen one 303 with a 308 bbl and it is a mark-4.
a 174 gr bullet with a muzzle velocity in the 2500+ range will kill an elk just fine.
i use the hornady 150 interlock for elk and the sierra 150 for deer in my no*4 both in the 2600+ velocity range.
runfiverun loadfull of thank
Am I TO Hot With Hornady 174 At 42.Gr Of IMR 4064 at 2555 Vel Energy at 170 YD Of Around 1955 for Elk
yes.
i'd say that is a bit too much.
my hornady book shows 39 grs I-4064 as maximum with the 174 gr bullet.
Would this be a good load for Enfield Mark 3
IMR 4064 44.6 at 2750 for a Elk at 150 yds.At 75 if I can get within a 150 yds with my arthritis
When the late Jack O'Connor asked his guide whether he thought his rifle was enough for the game they were hunting, his Indian guide said, "Any gun good. Shootum good." It's a good answer. You rifle is good enough. It's up to you to "shootum good", that is put the bullet in the right place. Good luck on your hunt. I hear you on the arthritis. I'm 74 and have some that to put up with too. I also have a right knee that no longer has any cartilige and it will pop as I walk along. It's true that getting old ain't for sissies.
