Handi rifles are soon to be history. I was at my favorite range and there sat a NP serial number 223 with a medium barrel and target crown. $150 and take it away. Took it away. I will shoot it and make a decision to sell or not. $300 is about the going price now. Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then.

Good price!
What's the twist rate?

It is a 2000 model so it probably is a 1:12. I will find out later. I can make up some 45 grain reloads. And yes, I know how to determine the twist. Should be a fun rifle.

Took this Handi out with 55 grain soft point and it shot <1 MOA for me and the neighbor. Steve thinks it's the cat's meow. Will bring it up to NE this summer.

Handi-rifles are no longer?

Remington stopped manufacturing about Feb of this year. The even money is on a single shot to compete with the high priced spread but with factory barrels that can be swapped out by the owners. This one shoots better than I do and Steve is dead on with it.

Clayt, there are already aftermarket barrels for them (I don't know how much custom fitting they require - the H&R factory used to require you to sent them the action to fit them when you ordered extra barrels), and the actions are plenty strong for anything your shoulder can handle. Their low cost rather than easy barrel interchangeability was their selling point unlike the T/C's. If you like them (and I know you do) you should snap up a couple of actions while they are still reasonable. Same old story, S&W kills T/C, Remington kills H&R. They never learn that if it works you don't fix it.

I have that 45-70 that I made nasty loads for when I was much younger. Found my shoulder quit before reaching max (think 458WM loads)
