View Full Version : Can we organize a Pa Reloadboard fest?

j1

How many members live in Pa? How many would like to attend a shooting function in Pa? I missed several of them but would like to actually meet a lot of the members of this board.

I am not doing a good job. I do not care where you live. Only whether you would be interested in joining a bunch of members for a day of shooting. We need to know how many might attend.

If you wouldn't mind having an Ohioan I would like to come. If western PA I could make it easy. Eastern PA would be harder.

j1
03-14-2014, 12:31 PM
Kirbydoc there is no info at this time where it will be or when. There were several in the past and I never went. I would like to if I can. Check back here from time to time and we will both hopefully see what develops.

Of course an Ohioan is welcome.

j1, not too many PA guys on here. You, me and BB come to mind.

Need a date and location. Unfortunately, I sold my Dads farm... I belong to a club here in Wellsboro that we may be able to work something out with but it's only 100'yards... Gong up on the mountain at 200'i think but no target boards.

Sounds good to me

j1

Everything depends on how many guys say they are coming. There is a range about half an hour away. Pistol and various rifle ranges up to 100 and 200 yards. If you have a Pa hunting license bring it and it is free. Usually no one checks but I think that it is $25 to shoot. I think that there is an outhouse too. Lots of firing points.

Skykid would you really drive that far or are you messing with me. You are in the Myrtle Beach area if I am not mistaken. I drove there once for golf, but then I continued on to Florida.

J1
If I can make it I would
I'm in the upstate area also know as the Dark Country Myrtle beach is about 4 hours away
Just think Dr Henley and Para could meet me here in Campobello SC
Then we could proceed to pick up RobDW in NC
From there it's a drive right up 77to 81 thru Virginia to Pa
Maybe even hookup with Picklehead on the way
I've been to Wellsboro for an Rlb Fest at BBerguson's Dads place back in 06 and it was a blast
By the way you describe your farm it sounds like you have plenty of room for an RLB

j1
03-29-2014, 08:03 PM
DO NOT BRING PICKLEHEAD. That sob can shoot. At long range too.

Maybe I am not being clear. When I say a Pa gathering that just means that it is located nearby. It could be Ohio and keep me happy, also Mark is completely welcome to come and so are any other nice people (except Picklehead he is too damned good at shooting a rifle)

By the way I think that I am supposed to say LOL. I have exchanged e mails with Pickle and he knows that I am just breaking chops but others may not. He may come as long as he leaves that new 240 home. LOL

This is the first year in a long time that I did not shoot a deer. Getting old is a bitch, really. Hey Pickle offhand or off the bench? I could do that off the bench with my 06 also. Gotta load up a bunch of 06 about now. I know that I have IMR 4350, but which bullets in the basement? Iknow that I still have some 170 grain F P s left over from my 30 30. I am using cast in my Contender barrel now.

I am truly sorry for this mistake.

Right now please. How many are thinking of coming to the Honesdale, Pa area? When becomes the next question. I have a few steel plates that can be shot with 22 or big bores. There is also a Pa game commission range about half hours ride away. Shotgun, pistol and 100 and 200 yard rifle areas. If you have a Pa hunting license bring it and use is free. Otherwise there is a $30fee, but I never saw anyone collecting any money. We could cook on my gas grill. No alcohol until the shooting is over, please. There is an excellent diner ten minutes away. My place is just outside Waymart, Pa 18472. How many WANT to come?

Dang bad timing on my part

I think there is little doubt!

j1
05-20-2014, 12:05 AM
Sky please note that I just asked how many would like to come. Next question is when suits us. If there are only a few shooters we can do it either here or at the Pa game commission range. Next question is this a one day deal or are some interested in putting up tents. Are we eating in the diner in town or are we going to cook. Lots of questions so far and we do not know anything yet.

Sky do not give up yet. There were a lot of chances in the past and I was always travelling. If I can make it I would like to meet some of the guys.

I loved to meet you and some others I have not
Also I love meeting up with all the guys I've met before
Unfortunately my job has taken over my life for the next 8 to 10 years until I retire and have to work around that
If you host an RLB many would like to stay for the weekend and do a lot of BBQing
Do it J1 host an RLB and you'll get to meet a lot of guys you talk to everyday it is a blast(pun intended)

05-31-2014, 12:59 AM
Thanks all. Yes it is I and the name Greg was already taken. However, I figured that the name "264 RLB" would be recognized.

I left Orange county in December 2013. I've become extremely overworked (I was already there anyway), watching every penny of my paycheck disappear, and have even less time to really do anything for myself at all. But, I am now a homeowner. I moved into Dutchess County and extended my commute to 4.5 hours a day round trip into Manhattan. At least I get some sleep on the train!

Of course now that I have amble room to build the reload bench of my dreams I don't have much time to build it just yet as renovations to the house are still underway. The last time I was actually out shooting (meaning more than just a few dozen rounds) was at the last RLB down in North Carolina. Anyway, I just wanted to drop in and say hello. Its good seeing some of the old RLB members here. I'll be back from time to time and hopefully start planning my bench setup.

"264 RLB"

The Original RLB

"So what is the status of this? Any plans in the making? I need a reason to get my load bench built..."
That sounds like "I want in" to me.
And just to be clear I WANT IN! Only time I can't come is last week and a half maybe two weeks of July and first few days of August.

Kirbydoc
06-10-2014, 03:44 AM

Kirbydoc do you intend coming? So far it is Dantobin and me. Not playing games saying that I would like to go is different from saying what day in July is good for you? I make this list as two, including me. Heck we do not need much planning. Two can shoot off my shooting bench simultaneously. If any have good memories I last shot with a chap named "chuckslayer" on Gregs old board. Now that was a lot of years ago. He brought his 22 250 and I shot my 223 and we shot simultaneously. Had a nice day shooting.

Skykid this is especially for you. Last year I had quintuple bypass heart surgery. While rubbing cream into the big scar on my chest I told my honey
"I think it is someday" and she did not say a single word. She just booked our Alaska cruise tour. We always used to say that we were going "someday". We made someday happen and that is just how life is. If you do not make it happen it never happens.

j1
06-22-2014, 12:09 AM
Well we are up to three. Any weekend is fine with me since I am retired. I have to visit that Pa Game Commission range and see if there is a roof over the 100 and 200 yard firing points. Rain is otherwise the pitts. If we all look at a weather forecast the night before could we all just say how about tomorrow (Saterday?). Works for me of course. I live here. I have some steel plates at 100 and 150 if you shoot from the bench. Naturally we could staple paper targets at the target frames also. Two shooters can shoot off the bench simultaneously.

j1
06-27-2014, 12:11 PM
Kirby I admire your ability to post pics here. There is no problem setting up your tent here. Having been in the army I am familiar with outdoor pit privies so all we have to do is pitch your tent where you have some privacy. Nice to solve problems so easily. You are welcome here.

Dean Grinnell was once quoted: "It is said that alcohol and black powder don't mix. In fact they do mix, but the taste is truly horrendous."

I don't start pouring until all the guns are cased and all the ammo put away. Then I have been known to knock back a few, more than a few on occasion if truth be told as long as I am not driving. I have never been really comfortable if anyone is drinking while shooting is still going on, even if the drinkers have put their own guns away, you can never predict how much stupid is in any given bottle - and I assume there is generally as much stupid in each bottle as there is alcohol. A good number of the ranges I've belonged to over the years don't allow it on the property. Personally, I won't even handle a chef's knife when I've had anything to drink (I'm part Italian and talk with my hands - it can get very messy).

OTOH, we have a rifle and two pistols that fire elastic bands semiauto at spinning targets and I don't mind if anyone shoots them while imbibing as long as they know pets and other guests are not acceptable targets. They are accurate enough to safely, graphically, (and embarrassingly) show how quickly you lose your fine motor skills when impaired even slightly.

j1
08-04-2014, 12:46 PM

j1
08-04-2014, 05:42 PM
V are you really sure you can't?

versifier
08-04-2014, 08:24 PM
I can't handle long car trips without mega pain meds, which I adamantly refuse to take. I did actually fly down unarmed (except for Swiss camo hat) to Philly in May for my eldest daughter's graduation from med school and the traveling there and back was mostly tolerable, but there is no way to fly with all the guns & ammo I'd want to bring, even if I had the extra cash. One colonoscopy with pretty nurses is enough, I will pass on the free one courtesy of TSA's latex gloved gorillas, never mind ending up on the terrorist watch list just for traveling with enough firepower to take over a small Central American country. Maybe we can figure out something for next year.

Kirbydoc

j1, I generally eat one of those with some potatoe salad and baked beans but sometimes 1 1/2. I don't usually eat like blue dot though, he can put it away.

Versifier, find a 1996 Chrysler LHS or 300 and sit in it. SERIOUSLY. That is the MOST comfortable car I ever drove. I could ride in it all day and get out with no pain. They may make a model today just as comfy. Try it.
Only major foible in that vehicle was the air conditioning repairs. Wish I had fixed her up good and kept her.

V I really feel bad hearing of your medical problems. Yesterday we had company and I shot a Ladysmith 22 in Titanium. Really nice gun but the red dot lazer is unusable in daylight, but that gun shoots where it looks with the open sights. Nice experience.

Kirby there is a tremendous differenc between what I want to eat and what I can eat. Obese is a key word here.

Kirbydoc
08-05-2014, 10:34 PM
OK, then 1 per settin' ought to do you. Come on guys, what about the rest of you?

j1
08-07-2014, 04:32 PM
What are you guys bringing (shooting)?

We can shoot handgun from 22 through 44 magnum and rifle from 22 through 30 06. That is just my stuff. I always use my shooting glasses shooting handguns at steel plates. I once had a ricochet hit my forearm. Made me think that I was glad that it was my forearm and not my eye. We can shoot off the bench or offhand, or both.

Kirby never having one before I think that I would like two. I can always skip my hamburger.

If shooting steel plates with a handgun (short range) I think that we should all wear shooting glasses.

Shooting. Throwing the bull. Eating and drinking. I see nothing not to like.

My gas grill just ran out of gas yesterday. The tank did not seem to last very long. Bought an extra and will get both filled. Sometimes I do have a good idea.

Kirby I will settle for two Bahama Mommas but are there any Obama Mommas? Ought to be interestng as he reminds me of a F n pig at every opportunity. He vacations while the world is at war.

His piggy wife took a ten million dollar vacation and his worthless little daughter took a bunch of schoolmates on vacation, all accompanied by secret service agents and Air force One AND Two to Oaxaca Mexico at taxpayer expense. My word have none of them heard that millions of U S citizens are losing their houses due to their losing their jobs. A revolution really would seem in order.

That piece of garbage is MY president, and yours. I really feel that I, and the entire U S needs help. Maybe we should all just rest for a while until the lovely religion of peace (Muslim) can catch us up in a jihad.

I look forward to meeting you. I bought two propane tanks for the gas grill. We will shop for whatever you would like after you get here. Breakfast out tomorrow morning. Breakfast out is more of a treat to me as I have seldom done so while working.

Hey my shooting bench holds two so two is a perfect number. Now if Greg could just come it would be perfect. Have not spoken to him since the original board went down. How long was that? A loooong time. Now he is very busy traveling. I like being retired. Golf today.

Dan showed up no problems with his trip. Man I really liked shooting his 25 Souper. 25 sounds small but you should have seen that steel plate swing at 100 yards. That would have destroyed a deer at 100 yards. Looked cloudy much of the time but neither we nor the guns got wet. That man knows an awful lot about guns. Strange guns like the Souper too. He also brought a 7 mm Ultramag. That seems more like a long range western caliber. Powerful but little recoil, which sort of surprised me quite a bit. More to come tomorrow. Very glad that he came.

A two man show and a good time was had by all. We mostly shot 100 yards with just a little 50 yards thrown in for variety. Would you guys believe that I shot a steel plate right over a woodchucks head and it never ran away? With a 7 mm ultramag too. A really long powerfull, loud cartridge. Glad Ihad a witness cause it WAS hard to believe. The conversation was outstanding. Really nice to speak to a knowledgabe shooter and reloader. When Kirbydoc called and said he could not make it the thought of cancelling did cross my mind but I am extremely happy that I did not.

There have been many shoots but I never did make one before. I did now. Better late than never. That Souper is a bitch to shoot. Accurate and powerful. Nice combo.

Glad you two had a good time. Dan's a good man and he really knows his stuff. It was good to see him again when he did a New England Ride on his new motorcycle last year, wish we'd had time to shoot like we did in Maine.

j1,

When? Last year was too screwed up a time for me. Summer is construction project time since the kids aren't in school. I just executed contracts for around $300,000 for June/July/August.
