I was talking to a English chap earlier & he had me stumped! He was refering to a 36bore shot gun ! I asked him what it was demention wise & he said it was just another name for a .410 . Now i have always been of the opion that a .410 is taken by it's bore diamiter hence .410 . I have never heard of it being called by it's gauge . Is this a common practice or is it something that has never reached Australia ?
The other thing was a 14g Riot gun that was produced by Greener . It had a Triple firing pin so if stolen the ammo could not be easily obtained anybody ever seen one of these ? as there is one for sale in Sydney!

I never heard of the 410 being called 36 bore. I've always kinda wanted a 410 but the ammo is so dam high, but a real hunter uses a 22 anyway. but i've seen them 410's really reach up there after them squirrels

I brought my lad a .410 & it doubles as a snake charmer round the house ! But your right about the price of ammo it's twice the price of a box 12g down here ! So I invested in a Mec 600 jr for him off E-bay !Their pretty cheap to run that way

I have seen a couple of those Greeners. Some friends of mine bought a few because they were cheap, and intended to convert them to BPCR rifles. It got more expensive than they thought , and I don't think they ever carried thru with it.

the reason 410's are more expensive than 12 gauge, is supply (or so I have been told) there are a lot more 12's sold each year compared to 410's If you think 12.75 for a box of 410 is expensive, thy buying 31/2" 10 gauge Mags for my Goose gun, 30.00 a box :-(

Yes, the 410 is a 36-ga. and a 36-ga. is a 410. I don't know why they got two different names for the same caliber but they do. Most everyone I know says 410 except for one from Ireland -- he call it a 36-ga.

I believe that the triple pin guns were made for Egyptian poilice and prison guards so that they would not "grow legs" because the special ammo was not available except through the authorities. I remember reading an article about them in the dim and distant past, but cannot remember where, or if I remembered the details correctly.
My personal theory about .410 bore vs. 36 ga is that the Brits called it that way just to piss off the French and Belgians.
