I'm planning on using my .257 Roberts for coyote hunting this winter. I've never loaded any varmint loads for it and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? I was looking at the 75 gr HPs, but was curious about the 87 grainers.

I load for my friend's Bob, but we had such fantastic accuracy with two different 100gr bullets (Sierra and plain old Remington CoreLoct) that we never bothered with anything lighter. We figure the heavier bullets will retain energy better at longer ranges, the coyotes and deer are going to be just as dead from a 100gr bullet as from lighter ones, and he'd rather not have to mess with the sights to switch loads back and forth. I would have liked to continue testing, but he didn't want to spend the cash on components and it's his rifle.

The bottom line is always what your rifle likes best. I'd try all three weights and see what it likes. 3031 was the best powder I tested with 100gr bullets, yours may like it too.
