Ok, so I have been asked this question a number of times, and I can't answer it since I have never reloaded 45 (haven't got one yet).

Can 45 auto brass be made by cutting down 30-06 (270 etc.) cases? The dimensions are very close, except the 45 has a longer taper above the rim.

Will it work, anyone done it?

Cut down, inside ream; the same process was used to make 44 Automag. I think RCBS might have had a kit at some point.

Here in Canada, Armco sell (sold?) their 45/08, $1 a piece - brass only, for bear defense loads. The thick case head allows higher pressures (you will also have higher pressure with regular loads, unless you ream the case to match a standard one).

There is some literature at the bottom of their What's New page.

making 45's from 0-6 has to be the most tedious job ever.
they are better suited for the 44 auto mag.
