Looking for some good cast loads for the Hornet in 44&55 grain bullets. I have not had much luck without gas checks so maybe some loads in the 1400fps range W/O
checks and some loads in the 2000-2400fps range with checks. I have had a little luck with 6.5g of 2400 and a 44g hard cast with checks[2050fps]. Groups OK but have need for improvement.... I have never did a lot of cast shooting in rifle but have 45 yrs of using cast in handguns & due to slower speeds no problems[never used a gas check till lately] . Uncle Booger......... |

good cast loads for the 22's [especially] begin and end with the quality of the cast boolit.
you need to inspect them like they wanna date your daughter. i would look to a slower powder than 2400 though for the higher velocities. if the boolit is designed for a g/c use one,and try a mold with a plain base instead of not using the g/c. powders for the 223 should do well with cast in the hornet. for the non g/c [on the g/c design]i'd go with a faster powder and target 1200 or so fps making it a heavy weighted 22 long rifle. |
