We'll just have to keep that thought safe ourselves this year.

May your wish come true Mike. And the best Thanksgiving to all.
Just a note, Clayt and family were forced out of their home d/t the snow storm and loss of electricity. He told me that the power company robo called that power should be back on Monday afternoon.
That sucks. I picked up a generator 5 or 6 years ago for that exact reason. Power goes out and I run the genset to power the pellet stove, etc.

I thought he had a generator. Hope he got the pipes drained. It would really suck if they froze up. They got a nasty mix before it turned to snow. We got all snow up above the Notches.
We don't lose power very often here or for long due to close proximity to the hydro station, but heavy wet snow always takes down power lines and causes all kinds of trouble in the rest of the state. Basic rules for any northern areas: gas stove in the kitchen, woodstove in the basement, candles if we need them and a dog to keep my feet warm.

We had 5-6" here and 9" in the higher elevations. All of it was extremely wet snow. It wasn't supposed to stick that bad on the roads but it turned into a cluster in a hurry. I just got a new F350, 8'6" Fisher V-plow, Whelen LP LED mini light bar last week. I was out in that crap without a tow strap, shovel, salt, flares, etc. Time to go shopping when I get back at the end of the week. I spent 3 hours trying to get the school buses moving in the rolling hills. I plowed a path to get one home for about 10 miles through the hills. We had all 5 of our plow trucks escorting buses on runs or rescuing stuck buses. It was so screwed up the one state cop and I ran into each other about every 10 minutes. Closing roads, he took 2 kids home on a closed road, I pilfered flares from him, road updates, I blocked a road for morons trying to go around his flare setup, etc.
I am 1/2 a mile from the local sub-station but the idiots back feed our area from a sub 20 miles away if that makes any sense.
I have 25gals of gas on hand and need to fill the other 4 jugs. I try to keep 7-8 days of gas on site during the winter months. It takes about 5gal/day under load.

I didn't leave my house.
We got 14'+ of sticky snow on Wednesday. Problem being that the weather warmed up an thawed the trees on Monday + Tuesday. That made them weak and venerable to damage from what would seem to be a "normal" snow event. NH got hit the worst with 200K outages.
We lost power for 70 hours. Had ham and olive sandwiches for Thanksgiving Diner, but took the intended meal to the inlaws on Friday and cooked it there. I have a small generator that I ran extension cords to power the furnace, fridge and the freezer. (pick any 2) Bucketed from 50 Gallon water heater as needed.
PITA but we survived intact.
