Default Got my 38 CW mould from midway

    Time to start casting 38's,
My load has been Hornady 148gr DEWC 4.3gr Power Pistol
    Lo 744.5 Hi 785.5 Av 766.6 Es 41.05 Sd 13.85

My hornady book did'nt have power pistol listed for the 148gr bullets so i used the loading for the 158gr bullet for 700fps

Think i should stick with this load or try another?

    Hi Toney

    Which mold did you get?
Power P. is a bit slowish for that application according to the expert writers, but that's the kind I like in 38 too
I don't shoot WC in 38 though, and my loads are more 38-44ish than 38Sp.

The PP is close to Unique; look at alliantpowder.com, they got a pdf manual with tables (it doesn't show well on screen but if you can print...).

    what's your gun?

I have a old Ideal 150gn wad cuter mould. The one that I have is a plain base. The crimp groove on the one that I have is half way down the bullet, so that the nose is sticking out of the case like any other bullet wood. I use it in my marlin 336 35 remington, for practice, and rabbit hunting a little bit, but mostly use my lee 150gn swc plain base, because that one is a six cavity, and the ideal is a 1. I also shoot the ideal in the 38 spl, but am not going to give you the load becouse I do not want you to shoot as good as me! I use the same load with the lee, and in my moms black hawk it shoots in one hole.

My new load is 2.5gr tight group and the Lee 148gr WC!!! The 3gr load shot good off a sandbag, but freehand did'nt do so good. The 2.5 load is very accurate and has almost no leading.

Ive noticed less leading in the 45 using TG

I own a Taurus exactly as you describe. My "go to' load is a 163 gr. Lyman SWC in front of 9 gr. of HS-6. Shoots better than I can hold.
