    Default .45LC 300Gr Cast Loads

Will be casting 300gr flat, Lyman - #2 metal - for us in Vaquero (old style ... Thanks! ) and Taurus Thunderbolt Rifle. (Remake of the 1893 Colt Lightening Slide Action Rifle)

Probably mid-range loads. no need to abuse myself! Any assistance will be appreciated

Add more lead to the mix, you want them softer than #2 for handgun bullets. I would go 1/2 pure, 1/2 #2.

there should be quite a few books showing loads for the 300 gr boolits.
    i'd start with 7 grs unique,or 16 grs of 2400.
your vaquero can shoot higher pressure loads than your taurus can.
the slide gun needs to be kept in the 14k range.
second the softer alloy, the half and half [2.5/2.5] versifier suggested is much harder than the 1/3 alloy i use in my revolvers and leverguns.
even in the 1600 range through my 92's.

Much Thanks!! Really not much re Cast 300gr in the books. I have for quite a long time shot my #2 mix in the Vaquero, albeit in a lighter bullet. These loads are strictly hunting and self-defense, which is why I am utilizing the identicala load in both.

My own experience in shooting (since 1942) has been that the harder bullets have served me well. Everyone to their own preference. I will experimant with the suggested starting points, as I always do, with 12 load batches, and then reload on the range.

    Peace!

    and to Keep it,
    Keep your p[owder dry!
