I have a couple of NEF's in 357 max, 44 Mag, and 30-30. Cheap and very accurate.
For hunting I use 17 grains of lilgun and a 400 grain large metplate lead bullet. It's in the 45-70 range and will take down anything you run into. For target work and plinking I use light 45LC loads.
If you look at the tables at the end of each section of "Cartridges of the World" they list the twist rates for each cartridge.
This stuff of paying for wheel weights scares me. I've been getting them free here, but I'm moving back to South Missouri after 20 years away and most of my contacts for WW's are most likely out of...
When the weather cooperates I get out a couple of times a week. When it's cold enough to make my eyes water I usually sit at home by the fire. I have a range about 12 minutes from the house.

If the rifle is a savage you should be able to adjust the headspace with the barrel nut system on savage rifles, You said it's a new rifle, it may have slipped through quality control at the factory....
