.30/223 & .308x1.5/.30BR
I am compiling loading data on two .30 cal rounds for upcoming projects.
The .30/223 is a longer version of the .300Whisper with greater case capacity and better ballistics for deer hunting with 125 & 150 gr bullets. I will be making up one for a Contender carbine.
The .308x1.5 is a Frank Barnes creation that I would like to use to build a deer rifle on a Mauser action using 125 and 150 gr bullets, and also cast boolits up to 180 gr. There is a bunch of data for the .30BR, but that case uses a small rifle primer, and there is reportedly enough difference in the ignition characteristics that I have been warned that the data are not interchangable.
Anybody have any info on or experience with either round? :coffee:

versifier,
I have been thinking about that 7.62X45 (30/223), but do not have the money to get a contender 30 carb barrel, reaming it out and getting dies, but I thought that it was a cool idea.

To make the 30/223 barrel for his article in 1986 Gun Digest (The .30 What?), Roy Dunlap made a sleeve for the pilot of a .223 reamer, and a separate one to cut the neck (maybe a .30 carb reamer would work for that). A gentleman on another forum sent me a wealth of loading data for it, too. Any .223 rifle can be easily converted to it, but I think you have the right of it with the .30carb Contender Carbine barrel. I think I'm going to drill out a shot out Contender action and slide a new barrel into it, then pin it, as I have both already. If you would like copies of the article and/or the loading data, PM me an email address and I will send it out to you.

Actually I am thinking about the 30/223 improved, with a sharp shoulder and a straight case instead of some taper to the case.

This is a reproduction of the 308x1.5" Barnes entry in "Cartridges of the world", 7th edition, 1993 (and others probably, but that's the edition I have).
No mention of the primers. I compared the loads and bullet weights and everything seems to match.

Steve has data for both, and is able to tell the primers because he tested the loads:

Thank you kg42, every little bit helps! Great link, too, I "Favorited" it.
