I have been looking at the flip up scope covers at midway.com.
Other than being old school and they make me think of the sniper movies they seem great.
Does anyone have ideas on making your own?
I saw ( I don't remember where ) someone mention rubber innertube.

My Millet scope came with a scope cover with transparent lenses. It is a bungee cord type, but the transparent (tinted) lenses give the ability to shoot in a hurry if need be. DALE

dales idea is the one i use..
the innetube was so they could "flip" it off quickly.
the covers extend the time i can use them before i have to take them off and go to the scope in bad weather.

Cutting up an innertube used to be a "Cheap" solution. Nowadays, though, they're hard to find free.

But I have used them from time to time and find them quite adequate for the primary job, that of protecting the lens from rain, dust, dry leaves, etc. And if you do lose one, you don't feel quite so bad about it.

I do like the slip on, flip up type. You can keep your lens covered until you're ready to take aim, and still get them up without a lot of noise or excess movement.

I've also been known to use the "Bikini" type too. It's essentially a modernized version of the innertube design.

I use baby socks. Works OK for dust and such. It won't work too well if it is raining. They are really good when you have your rifle in a cleaning rack and are running patches with solvent. Keeps splashes off the lenses of the scope. When hunting I use the old dirty ones because they are dark from all the oil and such when you are cleaning the rifle and if you have one fall off and can't find it you don't have to worry about it. About 18 months old or so are the size to use.
