I recently purchased a Thompson Center TCR 83 rifle with a 32-40 barrel. I was able to find some 170 gr cast bullets from Midway, but I haven't been unable to find any load data for these bullets. Does anyone have any load data for the 32-40 with 170 gr cast bullets? Also, Midway lists several .321 jacketed bullets. Will these bullets work in the 32-40?

Welcome to The Guide, Desertman.

Lyman's Cast Bullet Handbook has some data, so does Lee. You can safely use Lyman's 164gr cast data with pistol powders for 170gr cast bullets, velocities are way too low for hunting, 1200fps vs 18-1900 for rifle powders. .321 jacketed bullets will work OK, Lee has data for them, but I have no experience with jacketed in the .32-40. Lee's 8mm 170gr RNGC .323" cast will work well in it, that was what I used, as will any cast bullet between .321 and .324". According to my notes I used RL7, it was many years ago.

Lyman 164gr cast:
Red Dot 5.0-7.5
700X 5.0-7.5
Green Dot 5.5-8.0
PB 5.5-8.5
UNQ 6.0-8.5

Lee 170cast:
H335 23.0 MIN is MAX
H4895 22.0 MIN is MAX
H322 21.0 MIN is MAX
BL-C(2) 25.0 MIN is MAX
H4198 19.0 MIN is MAX
H110 14.0 MIN is MAX
H4227 14.0 MIN is MAX

Lee 170gr jacketed:
ACC 2520 27.0-30.0MAX
RL7 25.5 MIN is MAX
