HI,
Has anyone used WC 860 in the 220 swift??
Or is that just a crazy idea?

Hmmm....
I'm assuming you are thinking about its potential for a jacketed long range varmint load. I use quite a but of it for cast bullet loads, but not for jacketed, and never so far in anything of smaller diameter than 7x57. I have no idea what kind of results you'll get, or even if it would be safe with such a small bore. I can say that if it does work safely with a jacketed bullet (something I have no data for nor experience with), I doubt you'll see velocities much higher than the .223 range. If that doesn't bother you, then I might consider trying it with a very hard (linotype)55gr .224" or .225" cast GC bullet looking for velocities somewhere between 1700 and 2500fps. I use it in medium capacity cases for short range cast target loads - some rifles really like it, others do not (and the preference is not cartridge specific like you'd think, but rifle specific). If you decide to experiment with it, please post your results.

You might do a search next door at Cast Boolits to see if anyone has tried it in the Swift.

HI,
Yes, I am Using the heaviest gov. surplus bullets I can get. for practice & varmints.
Will also get the heavy 72gr. commercial bullet later.
So j bullets, is what I am asking about.

If you can find published loads for H870, then I'd try it, otherwise I'd pass. Unless you have a really slow twist in your barrel , 1:9 or slower, I don't know if you can stabilize those heavy bullets. Most Swifts I've seen are 1:10 - 1:15 and prefer the lighter bullets, but I've never met a rifle that can read so experiments never hurt.

hi,
I have the 60 gr. Hornady a max ., and about 3,000 surplus 62gr. bullets.
I am hoping the heavier bullets will equate with a longer barrel life.

HI,
I went to the Hodgdon website, but could find no data on H 870 in the 220 Swift for any wt. bullet at all.
RATS.
Any suggestions?
